Sheikh Zubair Kayongo at the Kabaka\'s Birthday celebrations on Monday this week
The body of the late Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo is expected to arrive in the country at around 10pm this evening. Kayongo succumbed to kidney failure at Agakhan Hospital in Nairobi this morning.
According to sources, the family had booked Kenya Airways but President Jakaya Kikweta of Tanzania being a personal friend to the late, has offered to fly in the body.
On arrival at Entebbe airport, the body will be transported to Kayongo's home in Kagoma in Kawempe Division for a night vigil. From there it will be moved to Kibuli Mosque on Friday morning for the funeral prayers before it is transported to Buswabulongo Quran School in Lwamatta, in Kiboga district for burial later in the day.
According to family sources, President Yoweri Museveni through the Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde has pledged to meet all the funeral expenses. Meanwhile the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has directed that funeral prayers be held for the late Kayongo at the national mosque in Kampala.
Haji Nsereko Mutumba says in addition to serving Muslims in different capacities, Kayongo also trained several Muslims.
He is survived with not less than 45 children and 4 widows. Until his death Kayongo has been the leader of a breakaway Muslim faction based at Kibuli Mosque.
