A 23 year old man from Rubanda District has committed suicide to avoid arrest, Police has reported.
The deceased is Isaac Taremwa, a resident of Nyamiyaga Village in Buhungiro Parish, Nyamweru Subcounty in Rubanda District.
Taremwa who is son to Korinakwe Parison and Kesiime Emily of the same address was this morning found dangling on an avocado tree beside his father's residence at 08:00am.
He has been on Rubanda Police's wanted list of suspected Cattle thieves in the area, according the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspected motive for suicide was the deceased's desire to dodge arrest, having been a habitual thief wanted by police on various charges of stealing cattle.
The suicide case was reported to Nyamweru Police Post by the village Chairperson only identified as Sabiti.
Maate says scene of crime officers from Nyamweru Police post visited the place and carried out postmortem before the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.
The case has been registered as "Suicide By Hanging" under reference number SD REF. 05/12/03/2021 to guide further Police investigations.
This is the 4th case of suicide by hanging in Greater Kabale in less than a month.
On 2nd March 2021 John Rwantangare a resident of Rwabarera village of Kitojo Parish in Bubare Subcounty, Rubanda District was found dangling in his house where he stayed alone, four days after he was rescued from ending his life by cutting himself on the throat wit a panga .
Two days earlier , John Bosco Twinomujuni, a boda boda cyclist from Lower Bugongi in Northern Division Kabale Municipality had used a bed sheet to hang himself over yet to be known reasons.
On 17th Feb. 2021, Gilbert Byaruhanga the Defense Secretary of Ruhita cell in Rushaki Parish, Southern Division in Kabale Municipality was found lifeless, hanging on an electric cable in his bathroom.
Byaruhanga allegedly ended his life due to debts that had accumulated from a road accident in which his car knocked dead a pedestrian and critically injured another.
He reportedly acquired loans from money lenders to compensate families of the accident victims, but he could not pay fines to get back his car from Kabale Police Station even after surrendering his house as collateral to a money lender.
