Police in Moroto is hunting for an armed group of suspected cattle rustlers who shot dead a student in Moroto Municipality.

Aaron Akol aged 17 years, a student of St Michael Secondary School and a resident of Campswahili, South division in Moroto Municipality was shot dead on Monday night.

The incident occurred at 8 pm in Nadorin village Katikekile Sub County.

Michael Longole, the Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson says that the killers abducted the deceased, tied his hands, took him to Singila village where they raided goats and later killed him.

"These armed men abducted the deceased and made him walk up to Singla and shot him dead from there,” he said.

According to Longole, their intelligence information reveals that attackers were many and armed with SMG riffles.

Gladys Nakut a resident of Singla Village in Moroto Municipality asked the police and the army to adjust their strategies of carrying out operations.

"Police and the army needs to sit down and get another tactic of carrying out operations in Moroto town instead of moving in one line which armed warriors have known,” She said.

Joseph Lokol another resident said the police and the army seem to have relaxed saying every night armed warriors also patrol around the town.

"Security thinks these warriors are stupid because the warriors do criminal activities from one side while security patrols another side which is tricky,” he said.

For the past three months, there has been insecurity in Moroto Municipality after the armed warriors overran the town. In that period, 20 lives were lost forcing the army and police to intensify operations in the town.
