Suspected Pokot warriors have shot dead four livestock traders from Mbale city in Amudat district. The gruesome murder occurred on Sunday at around 3:30 pm after the unknown warriors with bows and arrows stopped a Toyota Harrier Reg. No. UBP 601Q is black and shot dead all four occupants along Lemusui Road within Akonguyo village, Amudat Sub County.

The deceased are, Umaru Binyota,34, the proprietor of Namunsi Meat Supply butcheries, Umaru Walime,40, Aramathan Boy,25, and Abasi Mubaje,28, all residents of Mbale City. Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident stating that a team of detectives visited the scene together with a canine and collected tangible evidence.

He says that the detectives also recorded witness statements to support the investigation process. He said the bodies have been conveyed to Amudat Hospital mortuary for postmortem waiting to be collected by the relatives. ‘’The motive of this murder is yet to be established and as security, we condemn such kind of barbaric murders of innocent road users,’’ Longole warned.

This comes at a time when the local leadership in Amudat district is appealing to the neighboring districts in the Sebei sub-region to allow Pokot herdsmen to graze on their land as drought diversifies in Pokot land. In September 2023, local leaders in the Sebei sub-region resolved to ban Pokot herdsmen from crossing over to Sebei land to graze cattle accusing them of causing insecurity.
