A teacher at Anyara Secondary School in Kaberamaido district is at large for allegedly killing his wife in a domestic brawl. The suspect is Richard Eriatu, a resident of Awaliwal village in Anyara Sub County in Kaberamaido district.

Eriatu reportedly slit the throat of his wife, Betty Etura on Sunday night and fled into hiding. Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga region police spokesperson, explains that the couple went out to drink in a nearby trading center on Sunday night.

According to Odongo, when it clocked 10:00pm Eriatu asked his wife to stop drinking and they return home in vain since she was dancing with other men.

"Eriatu then opted to go home alone leaving the wife behind at the drinking place but when she arrived home past midnight they picked a quarrel and a scuffle ensued," Odongo said.

He says neighbors found Etura's body lying in a pool of blood in the couple's compound on Monday morning and the husband was nowhere to be seen.

Michael Okello, the Anyara Sub county LC3 chairperson has asked couples open and speak about their family disputes to avoid such incidents.

"We are seeing nasty cases of domestic violence in Anyara and Kaberamaido district at large. The only solution is for couples to share their problems with experienced family counselors so that they can overcome such challenges," Okello said.

According to Okello, most cases of domestic violence are a result of mistrust in families, extra marital affairs, drug abuse and alcoholism.
