Boniface Aweri, a teacher at Kiryandongo High School and a resident of Ireda Shamba cell, Lira City was arrested last week following the death of his wife Licinia Akirapa Aweri. Boniface had gone to the police to report that Aweri had committed suicide.

The Grade One magistrate court in Lira has remanded a 30-year-old
secondary school teacher for the alleged murder of his wife.
Boniface Aweri, a teacher at Kiryandongo High School and a resident of Ireda
Shamba cell, Lira City was arrested last week following
the death of his wife Licinia Akirapa Aweri.
Boniface had gone to the police to
report that Aweri had committed suicide.
On Tuesday, Aweri appeared before Lira Grade One Magistrate Igga
Adiru and charged with murder. He was remanded until July 5.
“This is a capital offence so you cannot take your plea before me because I do
not have the jurisdiction to handle the matter. You are remanded until 15th
July when you will appear at the high court for plea taking. However, you can
apply for bail at the high court which has jurisdiction.”
Aweri aged 30 years was a community paralegal with Human Rights
Awareness and Promotion Forum.
Her body was discovered at their home on Thursday morning with a
rope tied around her neck.
However, investigations later showed that the deceased was strangled
to death and later a rope tied around her neck to suggest suicide.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Lira Central Police Station.
