Teachers Expelled for Demanding Their Wages

The affected teachers also accuse the school directors for failure to remit their National Social Security Fund (NSSF) savings since May 19th 2017.

12 teachers of Kigezi Cleveland High School in Kitumba Sub County, Kabale District have been expelled for demanding for their unpaid wages.

The school is owned by Cox Mpambaara, a prominent businessman in Kabale district and Alex Birungi. Some of the affected teachers include; Hillary Byaruhanga, Amon Musiimenta and Hillary Kyarituha. The affected teachers demand between shillings 400,000-500,000.

The affected teachers also accuse the school directors for failure to remit their National Social Security Fund (NSSF) savings since May 19th 2017. 

    Hillary Byaruhanga, one of the affected teachers says that he was expelled from the school after demanding his 400,000 shillings unpaid wages for the last nine months. 

Byaruhanga says that the surprise expulsion has left him in shock. Amon Musiimenta, another affected teacher says that he was expelled after demanding his shillings 410,000 unpaid money. 

Musiimenta says that they have already petitioned the office of the Kabale Resident District Commissioner and the District Labour Office for help. Musiiimenta regrets the time he wasted teaching at Kigezi Cleveland High School. 

Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe, the Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner says that they have already received complaints of the 12 affected teachers.

    Rugaaju says that the school directors have also not stopped at making teachers suffer by defaulting their salaries, but he has also received complaints where the same directors have defaulted URA taxes. Rugaaju says that they matter is being followed to make sure that the affected teachers get their money since they worked for it.

However, Alex Birungi denies the accusations saying that all the teachers were paid all their money.
