Teso War Climants Sue Government for Compensation

Seven People from Teso have sued government to compensate them for the losses they suffered during the Teso insurgency, between 1986 and late 90's.
Steven Oumo, the movement committee chairperson of Kobwin Parish in Ngora, is leading the complainants who are demanding for 154 million shillings in compensation.
Other complaints include, George Okalembo, John Kokas Opolot, David Okello, John Oluka, Stephen Ogugu and William Emudong.
In their petition lodged at Kampala high court the complainants claim that their houses, cars, livestock and household property were destroyed during the war between government and rebel forces.
Richard Omongole,the lawyer for the war victims, says that it is the constitutional right of his clients to get compensated.
The group is also seeking a court declaration over the indiscriminate act of the attorney to compensate Acholi war victims, leaving out the Iteso. Justice Mukasa Kibuuka is yet to fix the date for hearing the case.
