The police in Lyantonde district have arrested three people in
connection to the disappearance of a 3-month-old baby.
Elisa Wasike was abducted from his mother’s residence in
Kaliiro Ward B, Lyantonde Town Council, on Saturday.
He was last seen with his mothers’ new neighbour only identified
as Nayebare who disappeared until now.
Annet Nakawuka had entrusted Nayebare who had asked to help soothe the crying baby while she attended to her household chores. Minutes after, when Nakawuka came out of the house to breastfeed the baby, Nayebare had locked her room and vanished.
Nakawuka freaked out and started searching for Nayebalre in
vain which prompted her to run to the police. Through collaborative effort, police managed to
arrest three people said Nayebare’s collaborators.

Nayebale taking the baby released the footage to police to aid investigations.
Kereni Namara, the Acting Lyantonde District Police
Commander, confirmed the arrest saying the suspects are being questioned to aid police
with vital information that can enable them to track down Nayebare.
Namara declined to reveal details about the suspects
due to the sensitivity of the matter and not to jeopardise ongoing

She further explains that the Nakawuka wrongly trusted a stranger with her baby and could only recall her face.
She adds that they are not certain about the baby’s health condition
in the hands of the abductor whose motive is unknown.

Nakawuka remains sleepless and prayerful for police
to trace her baby and the abductor.
Wasike is so far the fifth baby to be abducted from the district in a period
of three years according to the police records.
Only one abducted baby was recovered alive and reunited with his
parents, while two others were killed and their mutilated bodies dumped in separate
locations in Lyantonde, and one who has never been traced in addition to Wasike now.
According to police detectives handling Wasike’s file, they
have new leads that Nayebale is a serial baby abductor operating not only in
Lyantonde but across Masaka region.
