Three people have died on the spot in an accident that happened on Saturday morning in Wandago village, Mayuge district along the Jinja-Iganga highway.

The deceased who are not yet identified were traveling in a sugarcane truck of Tata series registration number UPE 882. Their bodies have been transferred to Iganga general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The Tata lorry reportedly collided with a trailer registration number; UBE 639Z/UBE 682Z that was heading from Kampala to Malaba boarder point.

Ali Munobwa, a resident of Wandago trading center says the sugarcane truck overturned and it was difficult to rescue the occupants.

“The Traffic officers who have a checkpoint just 200 meters away from the accident scene mobilized residents to help. But the residents could not help much since the sugarcanes on the truck covered the occupants,” said Munobwa.

Meanwhile, James Mubi, the Busoga East police spokesperson says that the accident occurred at one of the black spots in Mayuge area and their preliminary reports confirm that the driver of the sugarcane truck was over speeding.

Mubi adds that investigations are underway and police is already looking for relatives of the deceased.
