Police in Mbale have picked up three men in connection to terrorism activities. The suspects were picked up on Thursday afternoon from Fatima Internet CafÃ© along Republic Street in Mbale town.
Jacob Opolot, the Elgon Zone Regional Police Commander says the trio is wanted for spreading terrorism words and possessing literature materials related to terrorism. He however, declined to divulge further details and the identities of the suspects saying he has a scheduled a press briefing on Friday.
Opolot told URN on phone that, after screening they had decided to release two of the suspects and retain the owner of the cafÃ©. However, URN has identified the suspects as Yusuf Balonde, his brother Baker Balonde and Yusuf Ssebwogawo, the proprietor of Fatima Internet CafÃ©.
By the time of filing this story, Yusuf Balonde and his brother Baker Balonde were due to be released from custody. The arrest of three comes about two weeks after Police Chief General Kale Kayihura issued a country wide terror alert.
