Three Nominated for Best Male Player Award

The players who have been nominated are the Vipers SC Bobosi Byaruhanga and Abdul Aziizi Kayondo and Erick Kambale of Express FC.

Three players have been nominated for the FUFA male player of the year award.

They are Vipers SC duo of Bobosi Byaruhanga and Abdul Aziizi Kayondo and Erick Kambale of Express FC.  

The shortlist was released on Wednesday by the organizing committee. The Awards gala will be held on December 4.

 Previously, the list had five contenders. The others who did make it included Uganda Revenue Authority-URA captain Shafick Kagimu and Vipers striker Yunus Sentamu.

Kambale scored 15 goals last season which helped his side to win the Star Times Uganda Premier League this year, the first for the club in 9 years. The player was also pivotal in Express’ performance that helped them to scoop the regional CECAFA Kagame Club Cup where he scored two goals.  

Byaruhanga and Kayondo were part of the Uganda U20 National team, the Hippos that reached the finals of the 2020 U20 AFCON in Mauritania and they also helped Vipers SC to win the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Three female players were also nominated for the female player of the year. They are Lady Doves’ duo Fazira Ikwaput and Keeper Daisy Nakaziro plus also the u-20 National team captain Fauzia Najjemba. 

Ahmed Hussein, FUFA Communications director told Uganda Radio Network that the final list was decided by the coaches and captains of the local league clubs.

Last year’s Awards were not held due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Former KCCA FC player Alan Okello won the 2019 Award and Crested Cranes Juliet Nalukenge was the best female player of the year.
