Unidentified thugs have stabbed to death a 30-year-old man in Jinja district. The deceased is Yusuf Bogeere.

He was stabbed to death in Budhumbuli East village in Bugembe town council around 9pm on Thursday night.

Eye witnesses told URN on condition of anonymity that the deceased had gone to withdraw about Shillings 50,000 from a mobile money agent when he was rounded up by four men demanding that he surrenders his phone, which he resisted.

The suspects stabbed him twice and fled the scene living Bogeere in a pool of blood. Residents tried to rush Bogeere to Jinja Regional Referral hospital emergency ward where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Asuman Musobya, a resident of the area, says, residents have abandoned the presidential directives on Covid19 prevention, which has escalated crime rates.

"Business in this area is back to normal as residents freely operate their shops till midnight. I have never seen police officers patrolling this area despite the curfew," he said.

Adding that “As some of us religiously keep our shops closed as directed, we are not assured of security because police officers have abandoned their role of enforcing the presidential directives.”

Abbey Ngako, the Kiira Region Police spokesperson confirms the incident, saying a team of detectives has been dispatched to hunt down the suspects
