The suspects whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing investigations with others still at large are accused of setting ablaze a hazardous waste truck following an accident that killed one person on February 16, 2024.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest and detention of the two suspects to URN.
Two people have been arrested for allegedly burning a vehicle belonging to
Ecoserve Company Limited. The company provides waste management services in the Tilenga
area of Buliisa district.
The suspects whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing
investigations with others still at large are accused of setting ablaze a
hazardous waste truck following an accident that killed one person, and critically injured two others in the district. The incident happened on February 16, 2024.
The deceased person was identified as Bejamuka Konka while the injured are Alfred
Oyom and Alfred Obegiu, both residents of Nile parish in Ngwedo sub-county in
Buliisa district. They were riding on a motorcycle when they got involved in the accident.
It is reported that after the
accident, residents set the vehicle ablaze.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that they have been hunting for the
suspects who set the vehicle ablaze. He adds that the suspects were
arrested on Wednesday this week from Buliisa district, while others are still on the run.
According to Hakiza, before
setting the vehicle ablaze, the suspects stole batteries and other valuables
from the truck and took off.
He says currently charges of
malicious damage have already been preferred against the suspects.
