Kiira Region Police are holding two people suspected to have killed 24-year- old Alex Mukisa, a motorcyclist on Sunday night. The suspects who are locked up at Kiira East-Central police station are Paul Kalimungabo and Ramadhan Kapeere.

They were picked up on Wednesday morning after residents who saw Kalimungabo depart with Mukisa tipped off police authorities. Upon his arrest, Kalimungabo confessed to his crime and led police to the residence of Kapeere.

Detectives retrieved two blood-stained machetes, a suspected stolen motorcycle, house break-in equipment and the deceased’s clothing. Mukisa, a motorcyclist working in Kakira town council, in Jinja district, was stabbed four times in the stomach before his body was dumped in the Kakira sugarcane plantation where casual labourers found it on Tuesday evening.

The assailants made off with the deceased's motorcycle and stripped off the number plates to hoodwink the neighbouring residents pertaining to the particulars of the motorcycle. Kalimungabo told police that Kapeere approached him with a plan on how they would successfully steal Mukisa’s motorcycle and sell it off unnoticed.

Kalimungabo explains that he tricked Mukisa into ferrying him to Kalongo zone, a deserted location within Kakira plantation, where Kapeere and another unidentified person had pitched camp.  He revealed that Kapeere and his other colleague stabbed Mukisa, covered him with dry sugarcane leaves and left him to die before fleeing off to their respective residences in Ntinda village, Busedde sub-county in Jinja district.

“I thought we were only going to rob the motorcycle and beat up Mukisa so as to force him to surrender to us peacefully, however, Kapeere and his friend ended up killing him instead,” he says. The Kiira Regional police spokesperson, James Mubi says that available information indicates that the suspects are renowned friends of Mukisa who was confident about his safety, despite being tasked to ride them towards a blackspot in the evening hours.
