Police in Arua District have detained a Sino truck driver following a fatal road crash that left two people dead and one injured on Wednesday night at Awindiri along the Arua–Nebbi Road. The 8:45 pm incident involved a Sino truck with registration CGO3918AC/CGO4033AC and two motorcycles: a Bajaj Boxer UFV 725P and a numberless Senke, chassis number LGVSJP1O6PZ302245.

According to Collins Asea, the Police spokesperson for West Nile Region, the deceased were the rider and passenger of the Senke motorcycle, who died instantly at the scene. A third victim, Collet Anguparu, 25, a resident of Wandi in Terego District, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary police investigations reveal that all three vehicles were heading towards Arua City from Nebbi. The rider of the Senke motorcycle, carrying a passenger and sacks of silver fish, attempted to overtake the truck from the left side at Awindiri Trading Centre. During the maneuver, one of the sacks reportedly struck the truck's body, pulling the motorcycle under the truck’s rear wheels and resulting in the immediate deaths of the rider and his passenger.

“Upon receipt of the accident report, officers responded promptly. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Arua City Mortuary for postmortem. The involved vehicles are now parked at CPS Arua City for inspection,” Asea said. The rider of the Bajaj Boxer, who was following closely behind, reportedly escaped unhurt but fled the scene.

Police have opened an investigation under Vide CPS ARUA CITY, TSD 07/18/06/2025, TAR:099/2025. Authorities say the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Meanwhile, traffic officials in West Nile and North Nile regions have expressed concern over a reported rise in road accidents in the area.
