Two Fishermen Drown in Lake Kimira

James Mubi, the Busoga East Region Police spokesperson, says a team from the Police Marine Unit has been dispatched to retrieve the deceased’s bodies.
Two fishermen from Bugiri district have drowned in Lake Kimira.

The fishermen are David Makkatu and David Mulambi, both residents of Buluguyi trading center in Buluguyi sub-county in Bugiri district.

The two are said to have drowned on Sunday night while fishing.

James Mubi, the Busoga East Region Police spokesperson, says a team from the Police Marine Unit has been dispatched to retrieve the deceased’s bodies.

"We are working around the clock to ensure that, the deceased are retrieved from Lake Kimira and handed over to their relatives for burial," he said.

The Bugiri District LC V Chairperson, Marijan Azalwa, says most fishermen lack funds to purchase acceptable fishing gears, which has led to an increase in accidents on lake Kimira.

"Although most of the accident victims have been rescued by their colleagues, most of them lack life jackets and the recommended boats, which can keep them afloat even during heavy storms," he said.
