Two Former Security Guards Held over Botched Robbery

The suspects are Joseph Ocen and George Omani both residents of Kireka in Kampala.

Soroti police has recovered a gun and arrested two former security guards attached to JAG security in a connection to a botched robbery. The suspects are Joseph Ocen and George Omani both residents of Kireka in Kampala. Joab Wabwire, the Soroti District Police Commander says the suspects were picked up on Sunday after they attempted to rob Samuel Mukasa, a local business in Kamuda Sub County.

 

He says relatives of Mukasa raised alarm which forced the suspects to flee into hiding in a nearby bush. Wabwire says the suspects were picked up on a tip off by area residents. He says after their arrest, the suspects led police to a place where they were hiding a gun. Wabwire says that they recovered a gun and six rounds of live ammunition. This bring to two, the number of guns recovered from suspected thugs by Soroti police since this year begun. Wabwire says the suspects are facing charges of attempted robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.

In a related incident police has foiled another robbery attempt in Kichinjaji Ward in Northern Division, Soroti Municipality. Ayub Mukasa, the Criminal Investigations Officer who declined to divulge details says that they received information about the robbery and moved in fast to prevent it. He says investigations are still ongoing.
