Lameck Kigozi, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson says Ssebunya fled into hiding after committing the crime and is still at large.
Luweero Police are holding two suspects in connection to the gruesome murder of Moses Kakooza, a resident of Kiwenda Village in Busukuma Sub County in Wakiso district. Kakooza was reportedly hacked to death by Mohammed Sebunya in Nakaseeta Village in Zirobwe Sub County on Tuesday over a dispute with squatters on his land.
Lameck Kigozi, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson says Ssebunya fled into hiding after committing the crime and is still at large. Kigozi says that they are treating the matter as a case of mob justice. According to Kigozi, they are holding two suspects, he declined to name. The duo is believed to have participated in the mob action.
He says it is that the unfortunate incident occurred during a meeting convened by the area Local Council chairperson to resolve the longstanding land dispute. Kigozi says one of the residents rushed back home and returned with a machete hid in his jacket.
According to Kigozi, Sebunya pulled the machete from the resident and used it to hack Kakooza to death. Preliminary investigations show that residents ganged up against Kakooza after learning that he was planning to evict them from his 10 acre piece of land.
