Two Killed as Robbers Raid Chinese Wood Factory in Kassanda

A policeman attached to Wamala Regional Police and a suspect have died in a shootout as unknown assailants attacked a Chinese wood factory and made away with unspecified amount of money in Kassanda District.

Two people have been confirmed dead in Kassanda District after on Saturday as unknown assailants allegedly raided and made away with unspecified amount of money from a Chinese wood factory.           

The Police said that two people who died are Police Probationer Constable – PPC Ronald Amuku, attached to Wamala Regional Police and one of the suspects yet to be identified. 

Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Rachael Kawala said that the deceased policeman and two others who are nursing severe injuries at Mityana Hospital were guarding at the Chinese Ply Wood factory located at Kigalama, Kassanda District.  

She identified the injured policemen as Peter Muwanguzi and Obed Lukundo, also saying that the bodies of the deceased were also taken to Mityana hospital for post-mortem as investigations into the matter commences.           

According to Ms Kawala, the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday where a group of about 15 unknown assailants attacked the factory where three policemen were on duty.

Ms Kawala said that there was a scuffle between the guarding officers and the assailants before they made away with unspecified amount of money.           

"Though in morning we have recovered a gun in Myanzi which we believe to have been the one was stolen from our officers, we are going to take it for further scrutiny to see whether it was the one used in the killing," she added.
