Security authorities in Kasese District are investigating the
killing of two people on Sunday night in Upper Mowlem in Hima Town Council. The
dead are Private Akera Davis, a soldier attached to Kavera Barracks and Rogers
Baluku, a casual labourer.
Akera’s bruised body was found along Hima-Kavera road, about 3 kilometres from
Kavera Barracks while that of Baluku with cuts on the chest was found about 50
meters from his rented room in Mowlem Centre.
Celestine Sebatwera, the Area LC I Defense Secretary suspects that the two could
have been killed while returning home.
“We are asking the government to beef up security in the area because we are
witnessing an increase in the number of wrong elements in the area,” Sebatwera
Rhoda Bwambale, one of the residents condemned the killing of the
duo, saying there is need to strengthen patrols in the area.
Bwambale said they are worried about increasing attacks on locals by suspected
Captain John Musinguzi, the Triple Two (222) Mountain Brigade
Spokesperson, said investigations into the double killings have commenced.
He said Private Akera wasn’t on official duty by the time he met his death. The
bodies are lying at Kasese Municipal Mortuary pending postmortem.
The duo’s killing comes just three days after a 26-year-old farmer
from Basecamp lower, Kasese municipality was also found dead.
Herbert Baluku’s body was found dumped a few meters from his garden in
Nyakazinga, Mbunga sub-County on Thursday.
