Two medical practitioners and a Uganda People Defense Forces-UPDF soldier are in police custody in Tororo district for alleged theft of medical supplies and government drugs.

The suspects are Bissa Hissy Kuta, a Bio-Medical Engineer and resident of Bulenga in Wakiso district, Isaac Okello, a Lab technician and resident of Amagoro B Central cell, Amagoro Ward, Eastern Division in Tororo Municipality and Francis Nkuzimana, a medical clinician at Rubongi military hospital in Tororo.

Police picked up the trip on Saturday after receiving information that they were planning to traffic government drugs across the border to Kenya. The suspects were arrested with Covid-9 vaccines, Covid19 test kits and HIV test kids among others.

Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson told URN that police intercepted the trio along customs road in an operation led by Tororo District Police Commander, Rogers Chebene. He says that the suspects are in custody at Tororo Central Police Station on charges of illegal possession of government drugs.

Mugwe tasked the community to be vigilant to report such cases to the relevant authorities. Early last year, police in Tororo arrested three medical officers attached to Nangongera health Centre IV and Tororo main hospital for the alleged theft of drugs.

The suspects included Peter Opua, the senior principal stores Tororo main hospital, Isaac Obbo, the Assistant Inventory Officer  Nangongera Health Centre IV and Usain Ochwo, the senior Ambulance driver at Tororo main hospital.
