Two People Killed as Gunmen Attack Bar in Kaabong

Police have identified the deceased as Polycarp Lokeris and Lotyang John Bosco Lokurukan, both residents of Komuria in Kaabong district. Polycarp Lokeris was a graduate of engineering from Kyambogo university having completed his bachelor's course from in 2019.

Two supporters of Sam Lokeris, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Dodoth East Constituency have been shot dead in Kaboong.

Police have identified the deceased as Polycarp Lokeris and Lotyang John Bosco Lokurukan, both residents of Komuria in Kaabong district. Polycarp Lokeris was a graduate of engineering from Kyambogo university having completed his bachelor's course from in 2019. 

Chris Lochoto, the NRM Chairperson of Kaabong and an eyewitness says two men dressed in jackets rode to the scene with a numberless motorcycle and opened fire at the gathering, killing one of the members on spot. The same man walked into the bar and shot Lokurukan before fleeing.

Kaabong District Police Commander Gerald Gubira says police is investigating the incident which took place after 11 p.m. on Friday, inside a bar, where supporters of the Incumbent MP had gathered.  According to restrictions imposed to contain coronavirus disease, Bars are not supposed to be operating, and the country has maintained a nighttime curfew which starts at 9 p.m.

“A general inquiry file has been opened but we have no information about the suspects,” Gubira told URN on phone last evening.

Incidents of election violence are common in Kaabong district where the supporters of various candidates, pitch themselves into rivalry camps that often get involved in fights.

In 2016, a man was knifed to death in a bar in Kaabong West by rival supporter following an argument.
