Two Remanded over Attack on Tourists

Two of the tourists, a Kenyan identified as Samuel Wanyaga and Daniel Lanti a Swedish National were injured in the attack that took place on August 10th 2014. This brings to three, the number of persons who have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Kabale grade two magistrates court has remanded two people in connection with the shooting and robbing of tourists in Kabale district. .

Two of the tourists, a Kenyan identified as Samuel Wanyaga and Daniel Lanti a Swedish National were injured in the attack that took place along the Kabale – Lake Bunyonyi road on August 10th 2014. This brings to three, the number of persons who have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Prosecution told court that it had an amended charge sheet having produced a tour guide, Gordon Mutatina alias Golden Clay last month, two others; Amon Owokubariho alias Henry and Willy Beigana on the same day threatened to harm tourists with a gun and later robbed them their valuable belongings and money. The attack took place at Kiyoora village in Kabale district

Prosecution further told court that the trio robbed Samuel Wanyaga of  Ugx 1.3 million , 600 Tanzanian shillings , 7000 South African rand and other monies worth Ugx 2.3 million. The second victim Daniel Lanti was robbed of Ugx 2 million.

Other tourists who were traveling in the same car also lost money and their belongings to the armed men. 


Presiding Magistrate Charles Khadis did not allow the suspects to enter plea on ground that their case can only be handled by the High court. He adjourned the hearing to the 28th of October when the case will come up again.

The two were immediately taken to Ndorwa government Prison amidst tight security escorted by the Police and the Prison warders.
