Broadcasting Porn: UCU Student Out On Bail

Rukundo applied for bail on grounds of ill health and the fact that she has a right to bail. The State Prosecutor, Emily Ninsiima didnt object to the bail application.
Lillian Rukundo, the Uganda Christian University student accused of broadcasting pornography is out on bail. Rukundo appeared on Tuesday afternoon before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court for her bail application.

She has been in Luzira Prison where she was remanded to last week on ten counts relating to broadcasting her nudes and videos while masturbating on social media and Ghetto Television, an online channel.

Rukundo applied for bail on grounds of ill health and the fact that she has a right to bail. The State Prosecutor, Emily Ninsiima didn't object to the bail application.  She however, said they are ready to proceed and have lined up four witnesses to testify against the accused.

In her ruling, the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Mariam Babirye granted Rukundo bail of Shillings 500,000 not in cash. She asked each of her sureties to execute bond of Shillings 10 million not in cash.

Prosecution alleges that Rukundo committed the offenses on May 24th and 25th, 2018 when she collaborated with Ashiraf Kato alias Arshburg, the Ghetto TV founder to upload the videos and pictures. Prosecution states that the two uploaded the pornographic materials with intentions of persuading the viewers sexually.

The same court released Kato on bail on Monday. Trouble for the duo started after a whistle blower tipped off the Anti-Pornographic Committee indicating that the two suspects were publishing prohibited material on the internet.

Rukundo had earlier pleaded guilty to the offenses, but changed her plea, saying she viewed the video and realized that she wasn't the one in the clip. The matter will return to court on August 3rd for the hearing to commence.
