The 2021 CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship will take
place August 17-28th in Uganda.
Auka Gacheo, the Executive Director of the
Confederation of African Football (CECAFA) told Uganda Radio Network that FUFA
had eventually confirmed dates when they will host the regional tournament.
“We have had discussions with all the five Member
Associations that will host tournaments this year and they have selected dates,”
Ethiopia will host the opening tournament in the
region with the CECAFA U-23 Men’s Challenge Cup taking place July 3-18th
in the town of Bahir Dar.
During the CECAFA meeting held in Rabat. Morocco last
month before the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly,
members agreed that the Senior Challenge Cup is played among U-23 players like
it is for the Olympics qualifying format.
The CECAFA Kagame Club Championship will take center
stage in Tanzania between August 1-5th, while Kenya will host the
zonal qualifiers for the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League between July 17th
to August 1st.
The season will climax with the CECAFA Senior Women’s
Challenge Cup slated for December 17-31st in Djibouti.
Because of the challenges of the Coronavirus
(COVID-19) which affected sports, CECAFA only managed to organize two
tournaments last year in Tanzania (CECAFA Boys U-20 Challenge Cup) and the
CECAFA Boys U-17 Challenge Cup in Rwanda.
