Uganda Defeats Kenya 7-2 in U-20 Women World Cup Qualifier

The second leg will be played on 8th October in Kampala with the winner of the aggregate advancing to the next stage. The winner will face either South Africa or Mozambique.

The U-20 Women National team has defeated Kenya 7-2 in the U-20 Women FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers. 

Uganda triumphed against the young Kenyan girls on Saturday at Nyayo stadium in Nairobi, Kenya to give the team a perfect start in their bid to qualify for the international championship scheduled for next year in Costa Rica.

Uganda got its first goal as early as the second minute of the game through Juliet Nalukenge before Margaret Kunihira added the second one, eighteen minutes later, Nalukenge also scored another goal before halftime.  

Fauzia Najjemba, Shamira Nalugya, Sumayiya Komuntale also scored a goal each to give Uganda a 6-0 lead in the first half.  

In the second half, Kenya tried to fight back but only managed to score two goals before Sumayiya Komuntale scored another one for Uganda to end the game 7-2.

Team coach, Ayubu Khalifa said he didn’t expect to score many goals although he was confident of victory.

Team captain Fauzia Najjemba says that they expect to build on that triumph in the return leg.

The win will help Uganda to go into the return leg with an advantage over Kenya as the two sides look forward to reaching the next level in the qualifiers.
