Uganda Gazelles to Play Egypt in 3X3 Africa Cup Semis

The Uganda Women’s basketball team the Gazelles on Saturday night shocked Kenya 13-11 in a hotly contested FIBA 3X33 Africa cup games taking place at the Hockey stadium in Kampala.

The Uganda Women’s basketball team the Gazelles on Saturday night shocked Kenya 13-11 in a hotly contested FIBA 3X33 Africa cup games at the Hockey grounds in Kampala.

 The Gazelles who on Friday night defeated Burundi were determined to win their games, a dream that came true as they won against giants Kenya and stopped Nigeria 18-15 to qualify for semi-finals on Sunday. 

 The win puts the Gazelles at a perfect win ratio of 100% with a total of 52 points scored in the three games sending them straight into the Semi-finals with Egypt who have also registered three straight wins. 

Nigeria women meanwhile will face off with Mali.   The Uganda team is team led by Ritah Imanishimwe, Brenda Ekone, Zainah  Lokwameri and Hope Akello. 

 In the men’s Quarterfinals, Uganda’s Silverbacks will play Mali in the Quarterfinals, while Kenya will play DRC. Egypt will battle it out with Nigeria while Madagascar plays Botswana.

Uganda defeated Mauritius and Nigeria to qualify for the Quarters.   In the under 18 games played earlier, Uganda’s under 18 girls (Junior Gazelles) outscored Burundi 21-2, before registering yet another big win of 18-5 against Botswana.  

 The boys under 18 defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 15-13 and also stopped Niger 21-13.
