It is alleged that on Sunday, the suspect while in Kidodo cell, Kasese municipality was arrested and found in possession of a forged UPDF identity card and one round of live ammunition for an AK 47 riffle.
Police in Kasese district have arrested a man accused of masquerading as a Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) officer and having government stores.
It is alleged that on Sunday, Boaz Tindyebwa, aged 27 years old, while in
Kidodo cell, Kasese municipality was arrested and found in possession of a forged
UPDF identity card and one round of live ammunition for an AK 47 rifle.
The Rwenzori East police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, said that the suspect was impersonating
himself as a UPDF soldier with intent to extort money from unsuspecting
persons.
He added that the suspect once worked as a crime preventer
in Bwera Division in 2021 and upon further search, it was discovered that he had
forged documents purporting to be a soldier.
Tumushime said the suspect is currently detained at Kasese
CPS as investigations continue.
