A Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF soldier in Jinja is in trouble for alleged firearm misuse. The 30-year-old Sadiq Mukungu was picked up on Thursday from rock village in Walukuba Masese division in Jinja municipality and locked up at Jinja Central Police Station.

Mukungu, who claims to have returned from a Peace Keeping Mission in the Democratic of Congo-DRC, is accused of using his firearm to terrorize residents. His arrest comes a week after Soo Jun, the manager of Skyfat Leather industries lost Shillings 15 million to thugs at gun point in rock village.

Taibu Ngobi, Mukungu's brother says the suspect confessed to him that he had a pistol. "Most people in this village were complaining that my brother was walking with a pistol during night hours and when I approached him. He confessed to me that he had a pistol and was planning to inform the village chairperson about it," Ngobi said.

Siraj Kiwanuka, the Rock Village Defense Secretary, says there have been numerous complaints about Mukungu's conduct. "Mukungu is a new resident who has lived with us for just three months but there are about 22 complaints of theft against him," Kiwanuka said.

He says they called police to search Mukungu's residence who took them to a nearby bush where they recovered a toy gun. But the Jinja District Police Commander, Vincent Irama, says intelligence reports indicate that Mukungu has a real pistol, which he uses to rob unsuspecting residents.
