Private Michael Kwewana, a Uganda People's Defence Forces-UPDF, soldier attached to Gaddafi
barracks in Jinja city has died following a
heated fight with his friend.
It is alleged that Kwewana clashed with
23-year-old Zakayo Ngobi after developing a misunderstanding over a commercial sexual
worker during their leisure time
at Kamuyodisa bar in Bwase zone in Buwenge town council on Monday night.
During
the scuffle, Ngobi reportedly stabbed Kwewana with a knife in the neck and
fled into hiding. Kwewana bled profusely and was rushed to Jinja Regional Referral
Hospital emergency unit for
further management.
He was later referred to
Bombo military barracks hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival on Tuesday afternoon.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, says Ngobi is locked up at Nalufenya police station awaiting prosecution. He challenged
bar owners to tighten security measures for the safety of
their clients.
