Village Chairman, Four Others Arrested Over Murder

Busia Police are holding a village council chairperson and four others for assaulting an elderly man to death for alleged infidelity. The suspects are Paul Aujala, the LC 1 Chairperson of Awokoto village, Everlyne Taaka, Vincent Owade, Tom Obara and John Opili.

The suspects are said to have assaulted 53-year-old Jackim Barasa, a resident of Asopotoit village in Sikuda Sub-county to death on Tuesday night in the house of Vincent Owade and dumped his body by the roadside. 

The deceased’s brother, John Okware, says that they received information indicating that the late was killed when he was caught red-handed having sex with a married woman in the next village. According to Okware, they have been hearing rumors that the deceased was involved in an extra marital affair with  Owade's wife but they could not confirm it.

John Barasa, one of resident says that they found the deceased’s body lying along the road and immediately alerted police. He says that they tried to follow-up how the deceased met his death and found his shoes in Owade’s house.

Florence Tom, a resident of Awokoto village, says that they heard people talking at night and feared to go out and intervene.  She however, said that they woke up in the morning and found a lifeless bod lying along the road.

Edward Kwoba Wamalwa, another resident says that they want police to carryout proper investigations into the murder and find the culprits for prosecution.

Tony Odonkara, the acting Busia District Police Commander confirmed the arrest, saying the suspects face murder charges. The suspects were still in custody at Busia central police station by the time of filing this story.

Barasa's body was lying at Busia health center IV pending postmortem as police carries out further investigations.
