Water Crisis Hits Ngai Health Centre III

Bony Ojok, the Health Centre Assistant says the only borehole at the facility serves both community, patients and health staff. He said the number of people especially the seeking water for domestic use is overwhelming and inconveniencing.


Ngai Health Centre III in Ngai Sub-County, Oyam District is grappling with acute water crisis.

The Health Centre is one of the oldest in the district, founded in 1980s and served as a dispensary.

Later, in 1990s it was elevated into a Health Centre III serving a patients’ population of over 33,723 every month. It is undergoing major expansion rehabilitation work to accommodate both Outpatients and Inpatients Departments.

Bony Ojok, the Health Centre Assistant says the only borehole at the facility serves both the community, patients and health staff. He said the number of people especially those seeking water for domestic use is overwhelming and inconveniencing.

Milly Adongo, who accompanied her patient for treatment at the facility says patients are forced to join long queues to access water whose pressure is low and it takes several hours. She says many of them have been forced to carry water from home.

Denish Ayoo, the In-Charge of the Centre admits that that the facility which is undergoing renovation is operating under difficulties though plans are underway to improve the water availability to save the patients’ burden of carrying water along.

Speaking to URN reporter during an interview, Ronaldo Opiyo, the Sub County Chief regrettable water crisis being experienced by people who seek services from the facility. He admitted that the problem has equally affected the police outpost and staff at the sub county headquarters.
