Leaders of Zombo, Nebbi, and Pakwach districts in the West Nile region have asked President Yoweri Museveni to fulfill the pledge he made more than 10 years ago of tarmacking Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Warr-Vurra road.

During the 2010 and 2015 presidential campaigns, President Museveni promised to tarmac the 119-kilometer road to ease the transportation of goods to the market but to date, it has remained in a bad state.

The leaders raised the concern on Friday during the 12th Coronation Anniversary of Alur King, Rwoth Phillip Rauni Olarker III at Atyak Seed Secondary School playground in Zombo District.

James Oruna, the Zombo LCV Chairperson says that the road is impassable especially when it rains.

He further noted that tarmacking of the road will bring about development and economic benefits for the people and the districts.

Agnes Acibu, the Nebbi District Woman Member of Parliament says the tarmacking of the Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Warr-Vurra road has been long overdue. She says they have been pushing for the roads to be included in the National Budget but in vain.

Lawrence Biyika, the Ora County Member of Parliament said that much as the President has been championing income for households in the area, it cannot be realized since they lack access to the markets due to poor road network.

Currently, the Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Warr-Vurra road is filled with potholes. Over the past years, many people have died in accidents on the road, especially at Jukia hill, while a lot of merchandise has been lost by traders due to the impassable nature of the road.

President Museveni assured the leaders of his commitment to fulfilling the pledge to tarmac the road. He also said that the government will also work on the Laropi-Moyo-Yumbe-Koboko roads among others.

According to Museveni, the delay to tarmac the road was due to the numerous competing priorities that the government is faced with.
