Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Co-wife

It is reported that she connived with her husband, Charles Oketcho to kill her co-wife from their marital home in Nabuwaami village, Mayuge district. The deceased was identified as 32 year old Rose Nabirye.
Police in Busoga East have arrested a woman identified as Kibiiri Kanyanya for allegedly participating in the killing of her co-wife.

It is reported that Kanyanya connived with her husband, Charles Oketcho to kill her co-wife from their marital home in Nabuwaami village, Mayuge district. The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Rose Nabirye.

Police say that Nabirye's body was found in a cassava garden behind their house with deep cuts on the head, the back and the stomach.

Nabirye's parents had earlier filed a complaint of theft against Oketcho, whom they accused of stealing and slaughtering their cow in 2022. The matter proceeded to court and Oketcho who pleaded guilty through plea bargain was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at Kityerera prisons in Mayuge district.

This, however, angered Kanyanya, who on several instances attacked Nabirye, accusing her of failing to convince her parents to forgive Oketcho.

Rashid Ndifuna, the LCII chairperson of Butakabira parish says that after his release on February, 16, Oketcho and Kanyanya plotted to revenge against Nabirye over her family's actions.

Ndifuna says that Nabirye reported this matter to the area leaders, where reconciliatory meetings were held resulting in an apology from both Oketcho and Kanyanya for their actions. However, he adds, they are dismayed by reports that Nabirye had been killed.

Rodgers Mugabi, a relative of the deceased says that Nabirye had been convinced to depart from her matrimonial home after Oketcho's embarrassing behaviour but she thought he had reformed when he expressed remorse and compensated them while serving his sentence.

Mugabi says that their parents paid a courtesy visit to Oketcho during his prison time and all parties amicably reconciled, creating a sense of hope for the stability of Nabirye's marriage.

Mayuge District Police Commander Agnes Aanyu says that Kanyanya is currently detained at Mayuge Central Police Station, whereas, the deceased has been taken to Mayuge Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem.

Aanyu adds that Kanyanya is facing murder charges, but they have mounted a search for Oketcho, who will equally face similar charges on arrest, as a key suspect in the crime committed.
