Lucia
Lemukol, 49, from Karinga Village in Nakapiripirit district, has died after excessive
alcohol consumption. Lemukol, who spent the previous day drinking local brew
without eating any food, was found dead on February 5, 2025.
A post-mortem
report has indicated that the likely cause of death was severe hypoglycemia,
which is believed to have been triggered by excessive alcohol consumption.
Hypoglycemia is a condition where blood sugar levels drop below the normal
range, often leading to dangerous health complications.
The police
have visited the scene, taken photographs, and recorded statements from
relevant individuals. The body has been handed over to the family for burial. Mike
Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that
investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding
Lemukol's death.
He urged the public to be cautious and responsible when
consuming alcohol and to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of
hypoglycemia arise.
In a related
development, police in the Mt. Moroto region on Wednesday intercepted a vehicle
carrying 20 jerricans of illicit gin and arrested two suspects. The Fuso truck,
with registration number UBE 084W, was stopped at the Kabei checkpoint in Bukwo
district while attempting to transport the illegal alcohol into Amudat
district.
The truck's
driver, Allan Toyek, a 26-year-old businessman, and his accomplice, Museveni
Titus, a 30-year-old male, were arrested on the spot and taken into custody. Mike Longole
reiterated the commitment of security forces to combat illicit activities,
saying, "We are determined to keep our communities safe and free from the
scourge of illegal activities. This operation demonstrates our unwavering
resolve to enforce the law and bring perpetrators to justice."
The suspects
are currently facing charges related to the possession and transportation of
illicit waragi. Longole called on the public to report any suspicious activity
related to illegal alcohol or other criminal acts to the nearest police
station. Since July
2021, joint security forces have intercepted 8,049 jerricans of illicit waragi,
with 7,900 of them having been disposed of through court orders.
