Woman Found Dead in Fort Portal Bar

Joan Kihunde, who reported the case to Kitumba police station, said that a person, whose name has not been disclosed, went to the same bar on Tuesday morning and knocked but no one responded. Kihunde added that when the same person checked, the door was open with padlocks outside.

A woman has been found dead in a bar in Kitumba ward in Central division, Fort Portal Tourism City. The deceased has been identified as Kate Tukugize. According to eye witnesses, Tukugize was last seen on Monday evening operating a bar in Binanata A cell in the same division.

They allege that on the same day, she operated till late night and they left her working by the time they went to bed.  Joan Kihunde, who reported the case to Kitumba police station, said that a person, whose name has not been disclosed, went to the same bar on Tuesday morning and knocked but no one responded.  Kihunde added that when the same person checked, the door was open with padlocks outside.  

"He called the neighbors who came and entered, and on checking confirmed that Tukugize was inside her bedroom dead, with some signs of strangulation," she said. Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Regional Police spokesperson, says that police visited the scene of crime but no suspect was arrested.

He adds that the body has been taken to Fort Port Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as they continue with investigations.  After the outbreak of Corona Virus In March last year, President Kaguta Museveni ordered for the closure of bars, saying drunkards cannot observe Standard Operating Procedures - SOPs.

Even when he has maintained the ban, most bars around the country have since resumed operations.
