A Lusaze-based mother, one sheila Kwagala has pinned her husband for masterminding the disappearance of their one-year-old daughter. The child named Diocester Namatovu has been missing since January 9, 2021.

On that day, Kwagala narrates that she left the girl in the house and ran to the shops but never found her home when she returned. Although she thought that she could have wandered in the neighbourhood, the child never returned and has never been found to this day.

A case of a missing person was filed at Lugala Police Station, and one suspect was arrested in the aftermath. However, the suspect was later released because there was no evidence linking her to the suspected kidnap, both from the information obtained in the community by investigators and from the CCTV Cameras in the area.

Now Kwagala says that her husband, Alex Sseguya could have masterminded the kidnap. She recollects that on that fateful day, the husband never returned home, even after receiving a notification that his daughter was missing. For two days, he never showed up and never called home, and when he eventually showed up, he was not bothered. Instead, he asked the mother to stop the futile search.

Kwagala adds that before the disappearance of the baby, her husband came home with a guest unknown to her, only to learn later that the ‘guest’ was a traditional healer. It is based on this that she suspects that the husband could have connived with the traditionalist to sacrifice the child.

However, Sseguya refuted the allegations by the wife saying that she has been basing on wrong information from fake pastors in her search for the missing child. He adds that he has equally been searching for the child and could not for any reason facilitate the disappearance of the child or even her sacrifice as alleged.

Human sacrifice is a growing concern to law enforcement agencies, parents, child rights activists and the general public. Records from the Uganda Police Force show that human sacrifice cases have been steadily increasing for the last several years.

Recently Parliament passed the Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice Bill, 2020, which provides the death penalty or life imprisonment for any person involved in human sacrifice.
