Police are hunting for unknown gunman accused
of shooting a dead a young woman in a brawl at Sivans Bar in Iganga
municipality on Wednesday night.
The
deceased is 27-year-old Diana Nankabirwa.
A scene of crime officer told URN on condition of anonymity that
the gunman used an AK47 rifle to pump several around into the deceased.
“Our
findings basing on gun shells recovered, and accounts of the different
eyewitnesses interviewed confirm that the suspect used an AK-47 to shoot
Nankabirwa. We are still pitching camp
at the scene to find out more,” he said.

An employee
at Shivans Bar says trouble started after Nankabirwa
together with four other ladies ganged up against unidentified man and tried to
force him to surrender his bar. It is at this point that they heard gunshots.
“We normally have cases where prostitutes gang up to rob
their clients. Yesterday (Wednesday) night i saw the deceased with a group of
four ladies thumping a guy and forcing him to release a briefcase. Amidst that
chaos, the man shot twice in the air and fled off only to discover Shakira’s
lifeless body lying on the floor,” she said on condition of anonymity.
James Mubi, the Busoga East Region Police Spokesperson says
inquiries are being made within sister forces to ascertain the source of the gun
and motive of the suspect.
Nankabirwa’s body is lying at Iganga hospital
mortuary pending postmortem.
