In a move to revolutionize the Boda Boda transport sector, 17  women have been trained in e-Mobility technologies, marking a significant shift towards sustainable transportation in the industry.

This training, facilitated by Green Hub a Ugandan e-Mobility company founded by Nexus Green and Motor Care Group aims to empower women and transform local communities.

Mercy Butele, Chief Operations Officer at Nexus Green, emphasized that the introduction of electric motorcycles is not only environmentally sustainable but also economically viable.

"Our goal is to transform the Boda Boda sector by integrating electric motorcycles, thereby advancing Uganda’s transportation landscape while contributing to global climate change efforts," Butele stated.

Moa Rydell, Chief Strategy Officer at Nexus Green, highlighted that the Boda Boda industry has traditionally been male-dominated.

She stressed that the inclusion of women is not about competition but about complementing existing operators.

The initiative specifically targets single mothers and women from organizations like Women Raising Africa, who are eager to improve their lives through this opportunity.

The electric motorcycles introduced are designed with unique features, including a home charger that eliminates the need for frequent battery swaps.

Each full charge supports up to 120 kilometers, allowing for a full day of uninterrupted work.

Rydell announced that the initiative aims to involve over 1,000 women across Uganda in e-Mobility.

Cavin Asaja, one of the trainees, shared that the three-week training program equipped her with essential skills, including defensive driving and first aid, essential for navigating Kampala’s traffic.

"This job will provide me with financial independence and support for my family," Asaja said.

Faith Tumusiime, another beneficiary from Gayaza, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity. With no previous employment and a daughter to care for, Tumusiime is hopeful that the skills acquired through the training will enable her to support her family effectively.

Green Hub has partnered with Safe Boda to offer clients the option of requesting electric Boda Bodas. Additional partners include Centenary Bank, Total Energies, MTN, TVS, and the Government of Uganda.
